Rickie Fowler opened his account of European tour wins by winning the Scottish open. Although earlier in the round no one could have predicted what was to come. With the Open fast approaching this victory will give Fowler great confidence.
The youngster was in pursuit of Matt Kuchar who appeared to be almost out of reach, coming into the final few holes. A win for Fowler at this stage looked highly unlikely.
Fowler eventually upped his game and came storming in. This gave the crowd added excitement to the conclusion of the final round.
Rickie Fowler had struggled for most of the day on Sunday at the Scottish Open. The young American was chasing Matt Kuchar and a bevy of Europeans at the last test on the European Tour before the British Open next week.
Finally, after two bogeys and a birdie had him spinning his wheels as he approached the last few holes, Fowler caught fire. He finished birdie-birdie-par-birdie for his first-ever European Tour win. The last one was a dagger. Fowler needed par to go to a playoff with Kuchar. So he pumped his drive about 340 yards and hit this approach.
