PTI: Player says he believes golfers have taken steroids
Earlier today on Pardon the Interruption on ESPN, co-host Mike Wilbon reported, "On the eve of golf’s oldest championship, the British Open, the venerable Gary Player said he knows of at least one golfer who has used steroids and he is urging a quick adoption of random testing. Player says he believes ten players on various tours have taken performance enhancers, one of whom confided in him. The notion of golfers juicing has been pretty much dismissed and laughed at, until now." PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem announced last month that steroid testing was inevitable for future of the sport. At a news conference on Tuesday, Tiger Woods was asked about performance enhancing drugs and whether or not he thought tour golfers would test positive. He responsed, "If anything...they would test positive for maybe being hung over a little bit. But that’s about it…other than that I don’t really see anybody really doing anything, or have heard of anybody doing anything. So, I’m interested just like anybody else to see what happens."
