Knost fails to qualify for PGA Tour, will likely miss Masters

If Colt Knost had kept his amateur status, he would be playing in next year's Masters and US Open.  Instead, Knost, who won the 2007 US Amateur title, decided to turn professional, and took his chances at Q-School this past week to get his PGA Tour card.  Yesterday, Knost finished eight strokes shy of getting his card at 6-under-par overall.  This means that Knost will rely on sponsor's exemptions next year in order to play on the PGA Tour.

Knost wins US Amateur, says he will probably turn pro by April

Colt Knost defeated Michael Thompson yesterday 2 & 1 to capture the US Amateur title at The Olympic Club.  Knost was one of the favorities heading into the tournament, having won the U.S. Amateur Public Links earlier in the year.  The big question for Knost is whether or not he will turn professional after the Walker Cup in two weeks.  With the US Amateur win, Knost qualifies for the Masters and US Open.  But if he turns professional, he will not automatically qualify.  Knost told Steve Burkowski of The Golf Channel after his win, "I’m going to enjoy this one, and then hopefully win the Walker Cup, and then we’re going to sit down and decide what I’m going to do.  But I don’t see me staying amateur past April."
