Funk seals the deal at Jeld-Wen, Pettersson pleases home crowd

Sorry for the absence of posts the last couple of days, but there has been a lack of news, which is never a good thing in the thick of August.

Regardless, it was a big week on the Champions Tour as Fred Funk locked up his first major. Funk's army of fans must be pretty proud.

As for the PGA Tour, it was a pretty uneventful weekend as Carl Pettersson and Scott McCarron essentially had a match play event on Sunday.  Regardless, it was a win for the local guy.  Read the wire story here.

Langer, Petterson withdraw from PGA

Langer_bernhard04tpcBernhard Langer (right) withdrew earlier today from the PGA Championship and will be replaced by Ted Purdy.  Reuters reports that he pulled out due to an unspecified illness.  Langer withdrew from the Deutsche Bank Players' Championship two weeks ago due to a kidney stone.  Carl Petterson withdrew from the PGA Championship as well because his wife had their second child on Sunday, July 29.  Petterson was replaced by Bo Van Pelt.

Green leads after round two, Pettersson trails by one

Nathan Green fired an 8-under 63 Friday at the John Deere Classic to take the second-round lead at 12-under-par overall, one stroke ahead of Carl Pettersson and Jason Dufner.  Green has won three times internationally, but never on the PGA Tour.  Pettersson will be looking for his first win in 2007, after winning in 2005 and 2006.  The Wolpack Alum has finished in the top-20 in his last two tournaments and will be playing next week at the British Open.

Petterson win in 2006 is no mystery

"It's no big mystery why little-known Carl Pettersson won last year's Memorial Tournament," said Kurtis Adams, a Villager Staff Writer.  Petterson finished 18th on the money list in 2006 making 2.65 million dollars.  This year, however, the Wolfpack Alum has managed only one top-10 finish.  Read the full story here.
