Villegas mourns the loss of his uncle

Depressing news out of Colombia.  The AP reports:

The uncle of golfer Camilo Villegas was shot and killed Saturday after thieves tried to rob his business.

Ernesto Villegas Zuluaga, 56, was killed when two armed men entered his coffee trading enterprise demanding money and he jumped on one of them, according to senior Caldas state official Henry Murillo.

Relatives say Camilo Villegas is flying home to Colombia for the burial of his uncle, who was also his godfather.

Villegas finally wins, race for FedEx Cup ends

Villegas_bmw_winWhat was supposed to be a rejuvenated FedEx Cup points system ended up being, what some might call, a failure.  Although Camilo Villegas' wire-to-wire breakthrough win at the BMW Championship should be recognized, it has been overshadowed by the fact that Vijay Singh has all but won the FedEx Cup playoffs.  All Singh has to do is show up at East Lake and he wins the $10 million prize.  I'm sure FedEx is happy with this development.

Villegas shoots 63 to take first round lead, lowest round in PGA Tour career

Villegas_camilo05ntc0451Camilo Villegas fired an opening round 8-under 63 to take the first round lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship.  It is the lowest round of Villegas' PGA Tour career, and gives him a two stroke lead over Mike Weir and Ryan Moore.  "I’ve been working hard all year.  It was awesome today," said Villegas to Rich Lerner of The Golf Channel.  During the Sprint Post Game, Brandel Chamblee said the following about Villegas: "He’s one of the most, if not the most exciting player to watch on the PGA Tour besides Tiger Woods."  Villegas almost captured his first PGA Tour win earlier this year at the Honda Classic, but lost in a playoff to Mark Wilson.
