"Real men just don't do that"

Daly_press_conferenceThe British tabloids are going to have a field day with this one. John Daly fired back at Butch Harmon earlier today in the press room, four months after the two parted ways:

Butch told the Golf Channel that I’m just a drunk and that it was ridiculous that Coach Gruden caddied for me. He just made up stuff that he didn’t really know the facts were straight, and by putting it out all over the world and not talking to me, it’s kind of ridiculous.

Real men just don’t do that...

I don't know what his problem is, but he just needs to really stay as far away from me as he possibly can.

Harmon told the Associated Press on the range...

For me, I think you just consider the source.  I’m sorry JD feels that way. I like JD. He’s a good guy. But he needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility for his actions instead of blaming everybody else.

What's an Open Championship without some pre-tournament drama?

Harmon believes there are golfers using performance enchancing drugs

Butchharmon_4First, it was Gary Player.  Now, Butch Harmon says that he believes there are golfers using performance enchancing drugs.  Harmon is apparently quoted in The Guardian as saying:

You have it (testing) in all sports and I think it is a very good thing it is coming to golf.

We would be pretty naive to think that someone hasn't taken a growth hormone or a steroid just to allow themselves to recover from injuries or to hit more balls and (make) your body react better.

I don't know of anyone specifically who is taking anything.  I have my own suspicions but I don't know for a fact so I would never say anybody's name.

I expect there to be a backlash for Harmon's comments, just as there were for Player's.  We are going to need some concrete evidence that a professional golfer has used them before we hear anymore of these unsubstantiated theories.
