Strong finish, frightening week for Davis
England's Brian Davis had his best career finish on the PGA Tour this week at the Stanford St. Jude Championship. The second place finish came without any practice on the TPC Southwind course before the tournament. This is because Davis got a call on Tuesday saying that his wife and two sons might have been victims of carbon monoxide poisoning in their Florida home. Davis flew down to Florida from Memphis on Tuesday to make sure they were fine. His family was safe and staying at a hotel. "Everybody is fine and back home now," said Davis on the Sporting Life website. "I'm not in the US Open (next week) which is a shame but in some respects it might be a good thing." David Feherty said during CBS's telecast, "Something like that puts it in perspective for you what’s important.”
