Match play for FedEx Cup?

Brett_quigley_2According to Jeff Babineau in Golfweek's Tour Blog, Brett Quigley offered up an interesting playoff proposal for next year's FedEx Cup.  Essentially, match play...

My suggestion would be to have a Top 64 and have a match play tournament.  If they want true elimination for the guys, maybe having a playoff three weeks, a seeding, and then having the Tour Championship be a match play event. For me that would be a perfect scenario as far as you get drama, you have elimination and then you have one winner.

Finally, someone is making sense.  The concept of match play for the Tour Championship is a great idea, only top-64 is pushing it.  Having an Elite 8 or Sweet 16 would be the most realistic option for a true playoff feel.

Second round co-leader Quigley switches caddies, shoots 75

Second round co-leader Brett Quigley switched caddies on Saturday at the Buick Open and shot a 3-over 75.  According to mlive.com, Quigley fired his caddy, Tim Mork, on Friday night.  Quigley quickly found a replacement and hired JJ Henry's caddy, Matt Hauser, for the weekend.  In an interview on The Golf Channel, Quigley said, "It certainly didn’t have anything to do with the way I played."  Brandel Chamblee said on the Spring Post Game, "It was unusual to see somebody take the lead for the 36 holes and then get rid of the looper."

Furyk, Perry, Quigley share lead after second round

Jim Furyk, Kenny Perry, and Brett Quigley share the lead at 10-under-par after the second round of the Buick Open.  Furyk and Perry are past winners of the Buick Open, while Quigley is searching for his first PGA tour win.  Quigley has earned over eight million dollars during his 11-year PGA Tour career and Brandel Chamblee of the Golf Channel said a win for the 37-year-old could be a great story.  "It definitely could be a great story.  Brett Quigley is a popular figure out here amongst his peers and also with the fans.  Last year, he had ten top-10’s on the PGA Tour.  You don’t knock on the door that many times without having the capability of winning a tour event…This could be his week," said Chamblee on the Sprint Post Game

Quigley and Austin share early lead

Brett Quigley and Woody Austin share the early clubhouse lead at the Buick Open.  Both shot opening round 65's and are 7-under overall.  Woody Austin has already won once this year on tour, after overcoming a large deficit during the final round at the Stanford St. Jude Championship three weeks ago.  Quigley has only finished in the top-10 once this year.  The world's third ranked player, Jim Furyk, is only one stroke back at 6-under-par.
