Atwal case now closed

Arjun_atwal_swing_2After some confusion, Arjun Atwal will not be charged for the death of a man he was involved in a street car race with in March, 2007.  An assistant state attorney said that the two vehicles did not make contact during the race.  Atwal can now breathe a sigh of relief, especially after a win at the Malaysian Open on the European Tour three days ago.

Despite reports, Atwal case still not closed

Arjun_atwal_headshot_3Last year, former PGA Tour player Arjun Atwal was involved in a street race with a man whose car spun out of control, crashing into a tree.  The man died, and an investigation ensued.  But last week at the Johnnie Walker Classic, it was reported that the Atwal investigation/case had been closed.  Atwal was even quoted as saying last week when he heard the good news,

It is a pain when you have to deal with other things besides golf, and luckily, you know, everything is sorted out now. So I can go back to concentrating on golf.

The (investigation) report went to the state attorney's office two weeks ago and last week I got a call from my lawyer saying they have thrown all the charges out. So, I am clear.

Despite multiple reports from abroad indicating the investigation into the fatal traffic accident involving former PGA Tour regular Arjun Atwal has been closed, the Florida State Attorney's office said Wednesday that the case remains active and unresolved.

In fact, it's barely been processed.

A spokesperson for the State Attorney's office in Orlando said the case is still in the "intake process," meaning it has not yet been assigned to a prosecutor for evaluation.

Geoff Shackelford humorously wrote on his site that Atwal "either needs to get a new attorney, or he had a really bad cell reception over in India."
