Bubba Watson had a miserable day. The Tour's longest driver teed it up in the afternoon Thursday in front of a modest gallery at Congressional CC. After a trio of pars to start off his round, Watson lost control of his putter, playing his next six holes at 5-over-par. But it wasn't his game that was the problem. It was his mouth.
Watson dropped as many f bombs around the green as Chris Rock during a stand-up routine. He threw his clubs. He yelled "YOU SUCK!" and cursed at his ball time and time again.
A number of kids were within range of Watson's tirades, and I couldn't help but wonder what their parents would tell them after the round. Luckily for them, Watson withdrew after 9 holes.
It's one thing to show emotion during a round. It's another thing to set a bad example.
As noted on this site, Watson has shown a softer side in interviews when asked about what it would mean to him to break through and win on Tour. Regardless of what kind of day he is having, he needs to show restraint.
Was his Steve Elkington apology an empty one?
