At the end of each day, I like to look at The Golf Watch's incoming web traffic. Like most web editors, I scan the referral addresses to my site and view the most read pages. Tonight, before I scoured the web, I noticed that I had received a number of hits on old Paul Goydos posts. I knew something was up.
Soon after, I learned that Goydos' former wife died, meaning the affable Tour vet will be taking a leave of absence.
I can't sum it up any better than this graf from Jason Sobel of ESPN.com:
As if his personality weren't enough to attract fans, perhaps the
reasoning behind his leave of absence will only make hearts grow fonder
while he remains away from the Tour. How many single fathers would --
if it were fiscally feasible -- leave their job to care for their
children? Well, most of 'em, I would think, and so it only goes to
prove what we've known about Goydos for years: He's just a regular guy.
