"The majors have lost their individual identities"

Grey_goose_813Although his commentary is unsettling on the Grey Goose 19th Hole, John Hawkins made this convincing argument on what the major championships have become:

Here's my disappointment. The majors have lost their individual identities.  Every major is now playing like a U.S. Open as if some statement needs to be made about the equipment sending the ball too far.  The PGA used to be the kind one, this was anything but.  The Masters used to be the dramatic one, and we lost that.  It's funny the U.S. Open was probably the easiest of the four majors in terms of course playability in 2008.

It's a great point.  How much longer do we have to lengthen courses before we realize that 500-yard par-4 finishing holes are dull?
