Lots of options for television viewing...

Jim_nantz_and_nick_faldo_127_buick_With four (um...three) prestigious tournaments this week--the Women's British Open, U.S. Senior Open, Bridgestone Invitational, and Reno-Tahoe Open--we all will have to decide what to watch and what not to watch.  Golfweek's Jeff Rude discusses the topic on the Tour blog:

What is the best event on this week’s crowded golf calendar? There’s the Shark at the U.S. Senior Open, Michelle Wie mixing it up with the men at the Reno-Tahoe Open and Lorena and Annika at the blossoming women’s British Open.

The answer would be none of those.

The little WGC Bridgestone gathering at Firestone (that’s two stones and a lot of tires) gets the nod because it has 47 of the top 50 players in the world. There was a day not long ago when a collection of 47 of the top 50 was called a major.

We’re simply valuing steak over appetizers and dessert.

But renowned golf writer Geoff Shackelford offers a much different take on his site:

In order of interest this week my list looks like this:

1) Women's British Open at Sunningdale

2) U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor

3) Reno-Tahoe at Montreux

4) WGC Bridgestone at Firestone

His reasoning for the ordering of the last two tournaments...

Reno (I'm sad to say) is of interest not because of Montreux but due to the Wie freak show. And that leaves Firestone. Long, boring and CBS's finest trying to tell us it's a classic. No thanks!
