Profile: Rolfing is the iron man of golf announcing
It's hard to believe that Mark Rolfing started working full-time as a commentator in 1986. He started out with ESPN, moved to NBC, then ABC, and returned to NBC in 1998. He has been there ever since, and contributes to The Golf Channel.
He had a short lived playing career, and eventually moved to Hawaii, where he has lived ever since. Rolfing never studied journalism or broadcasting, but was a natural the first time he was interviewed on air by Vin Scully and Lee Trevino.
Though he is recognized by most golf fans for his coverage in season, the time that he really shines is in the month of January with the Hawaii swing, and his show Golf Hawaii.
We sometimes wonder when he eats on Saturday and Sunday at the U.S. Open. He is on-air following the second to last group during NBC's coverage for 5 hours, and then goes right to The Golf Channel set for the post game.
