The playoff at this year's Players Championship started on the 17th hole, where it ended rather abruptly, with a strong gust of wind and Paul Goydos' tee shot in the water. So the question is: Was it a good idea for the first playoff hole to be the 17th?
After giving it some thought, I keep coming back to Brandel Chamblee's comment last night on The Golf Channel when he said, "It’s far too important of a tournament to be decided by a gust of wind." I think the solution is to start the tournament 45 minutes-1 hour earlier so that there is enough time to finish on Sunday, and have a three hole playoff. 16, 17, and 18 are three of the most exciting holes in golf, and would make for a thrilling finish. If this doesn't work with the network (NBC), then having 18 be the closing hole makes the most sense.
