Kenny Perry is in great shape at The Players after shooting a second round 2-under 70, putting him in a tie for first heading into the weekend. Perry, a native Kentuckian, was asked by Rich Lerner what it would mean for him to win this week and play in this year's Ryder Cup, staged at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Perry gave one of the most heartfelt responses...
It would be the icing on the cake for me. I've been talking to Paul (Azinger) a lot, I've been needling him a little bit, kind of brown nosing. Just letting him know I'm there. I sure would love to be on that team...It's in my homestate. I'll never forget all of the chills I got playing in '96 and having a chance to win the PGA Championship. Just the feelings and the support that I got was unbelievable, I would just like to have that feeling again.
Perry is 51st in the US standings, and has a long way to go. In order to be considered by Zinger, he needs to get inside the top-20.
