Kenny Perry has one goal in mind this year--make the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Less than one month ago, Perry was outside the top-50 in U.S. standings. As of Sunday, Perry has climbed to 17th, and is more motivated than ever to make the team and return to his native Kentucky. Though another win at the Memorial would be nice for the 47-year-old (he's tied for second after day one), the Ryder Cup is all that matters at this point. Perry told Rich Lerner of The Golf Channel earlier today:
I'm just trying to make that Ryder Cup team. It being in Valhalla, being in my home state, this is pretty much my last goal. I've been out here 22 years, I'm getting ready to turn 48, and you know it would just be a dream of mine to get in front of my home state, my home folks, and represent my country.
It was a class move when later in the interview Perry congratulated Ryuji Imada on his playoff win at the AT&T Classic. Perry declined an interview with the media following the playoff, and it was nice to finally hear him speak out and say that he was happy for Imada.
