Phil Mickelson was inches away from being criticized for being too aggressive yet again. Reminiscent of the 2006 US Open at Winged Foot, Mickelson stepped up to the 18th tee at the Crowne Plaza Invitational tied for the lead, but sliced his tee shot well to the left of the fairway. Lefty faced a challenging second shot with a line of trees in front of him. As he described it after his round:
I got up there and I didn't have really a chance to go low. There were trees everywhere. But I did have an opportunity to go underneath the first tree and over the second tree. And it just came off perfectly...
This is the Phil Mickelson we've grown to love. Mickelson put his ball eight feet from the pin and drained a birdie putt to claim his second title at Hogan's alley. Check out the AP story here.
