The AT&T Classic (a.k.a Atlanta Classic) is in jeopardy of being taken off the map next year if no sponsor is found. AT&T announced that they would be opting out of their sponsorship deal after this year. As Jim Moriaty writes on Golf Digest's Local Knowledge blog:
When Tiger Woods called about his July 4th tournament in Washington, D.C., AT&T answered the phone. And who wouldn't want to associate their corporate name with the best player who ever lived.
The AT&T Classic has been played for 40 years, and according to several sources, is still seeking a new sponsor. The ex-Pods Championship is in the same boat. If the AT&T Classic is taken off the schedule, as some suggest might happen, Brent Kelley writes:
...It's likely that the Tour would move the Texas Open into this slot on the schedule, and group the four Texas tournaments together.
As much as I would love four tournaments in Texas within a two month period, three is more than enough.
