Comcast programming director says Golf Channel is respectable, not memorable

The_golf_channel_logoRichard Sandomir of The New York Times reports that longtime producer Mike Weisman is being asked by Comcast to improve the quality of its national sports networks, The Golf Channel and Versus, along with other regional networks.  Weisman, who has worked as the executive producer of NBC Sports, has been involved in television for 35 years.

Jeff Shell, president of the Comcast Programming Group, said the move was made because of the recent growth of The Golf Channel, with its expanded early round PGA Tour coverage.  Shell said:

We don’t have someone responsible for everything that goes on over the air.  If you look at what goes on over the air, it’s respectable, but not memorable. We want it to be memorable.

I would expect The Approach by Callaway Golf to be the first show that is canned, or at least changed dramatically.  Weisman will have little patience with such poor content and production.
