Michelle Wie withdrew from yet another tournament--this time, the Safeway International. Wie said she reaggravated her left wrist during practice at Stanford last week. Unlike at last year's Ginn Tribute, Wie expressed her disappointment at not being able to play, while being gracious at the same time...
I am extremely disappointed to miss the 2008 Safeway International. I'm so grateful to Tom Maletis and the entire tournament staff for offering me this great opportunity, and hope to be back again next year.
Wie's doctor diagnosed it as a sprain and advised her to rest it for a few weeks, according to Jill Smoller, Wie's agent. I think Wie should rest it even longer. It's clear that this injury isn't going away, and Wie should give it the time and healing it deserves. Plus, according to all of The Golf Channel interviews, it's clear she loves Stanford. She should savor her time at school, and stay for the spring quarter. By mid-June, when finals are over, she will have a healthier wrist, and be fresh for the LPGA Tour this summer.
