Rome burns Wie on ESPN

Michelle_wie_distressed_2Michelle Wie struggled the majority of last year with injuries to both of her wrists, and she told the Associated Press earlier in the week that they will never be the same:

I just accepted the fact that it's never going to be 100 percent ever again. After a major injury last year, it's never going to be the way it was before.

On Wednesday's edition of Jim Rome is Burning on ESPN, Rome gave his take on Wie's comments:

Jim_rome_headshotNow, that’s a first.  An athlete in any sport saying that they or it would never be the same again after an injury.  I’m not sure I’ve ever heard an athlete cop to that before.  I mean, way to grind and fight through it, Michelle.  This is precisely the reason that she pulled the plug when she was blowing up last year, and had no problems stiffing Annika Sorenstam, and leaving her event, only to be seen hitting balls shortly thereafter.  The same reason she only broke par twice all of last year.  There is just no grind in her.

.

Ouch...

Wie will make her LPGA Tour debut this week at the Fields Open.
