The PGA Tour's cut rule has been changed once again--this one, however, is expected to be received much better by the players. The change made yesterday makes it so that there is a two-cut system on the weekend. The first cut reverts to last year's rule, with the top-70 and ties making the cut. If there are more than 78 players that make the cut over the weekend, then there will be a second cut after Saturday's third round to the lowest 70 players and ties. Those players that fail to make the second cut still receive a paycheck. The new policy will be reviewed throughout the year.
As for the FedEx Cup playoffs, points will still be reset for players who qualify for the postseason, but the points between players will be narrowed. In addition, the amount of points one can earn in a playoff event has been increased by 2,000 per position. Both moves make it more feasible for players farther back in the pack to make a move for the FedEx Cup crown.
