The G
olf Channel announced earlier today on it's official website that a new radar technology will be used during telecasts "that measures a golfer’s exact, three-dimensional club movement and ball flight, and provides the precise data on ball launch, ball flight and ball landing." The device being used is called the Trackman Tour System and will be introduced at next week's Mercedes-Benz Championship on two holes. Tony Tortorici, The Golf Channel's executive director and vice president of production, said, "We will be able to show a 3-D representation of a player’s tee shot, and then fly around it during flight to show different angles of its trajectory. Different shots from different players also can be compared simultaneously, which can provide some pretty cool visuals and reveal player tendencies." The device is also expected to be used for other programming including Golf Central and the Sprint Post Game.
