Earlier in the week, the European Tour announced that they would be starting a year-long poin
ts race next year called the "Race to Dubai," culminating at the Dubai World Championship with a $10 million purse, making it the richest tournament in the history of professional golf. Already, the world's number one golfer is out. According to the Associated Press, Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent, said, "No. He'll always play where he wants to play, and he's building a schedule around what's most important to him. And that's the majors." In order to qualify for the Dubai World Championship, a player has to be in the top-60 in points for the year and must play in at least 11 tournaments to be a Eurpean Tour member (majors and WGC's count.) Woods played in nine tournaments last year and would need two more to qualify.
